Archaeological digs in the Viroin region

Prior to Cedarc’s creation, its founders were already leading excavations in the southern Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse region, and continued to do so after Cedarc’s creation. Discover them through this timeline.

Le Trou des Blaireaux in Vaucelle

The first dig at Cedarc dates back to the Late Palaeolithic and yields abundant reindeer antlers, glacial fauna and a few flint tools. The top of the layers contains a few shreds of a Neolithic collective burial site, excavated in the early 20th century by the MRAH.

Le Trou de l'Abîme in Couvin

In collaboration with the University of Liège and the Cercle archéologique des Fagnes, excavations at the Trou de l'Abîme in Couvin were resumed, with the discovery of a Neanderthal milk tooth dating from around 45,000 years ago, associated with a Mousterian industry and Quaternary fauna.

The Enragés Gallo-Roman villa at Vodelée

Also with ULiège, the excavation of the Enragés Gallo-Roman villa at Vodelée was resumed at the request of local residents, as the previous excavation team had abandoned the site.

Marchet de la Terre de David at Olloy-sur-Viroin & Grotte de la Roche Albéric at Couvin

Cedarc is excavating a large Bronze Age marcht at the Terre de David in Olloy-sur-Viroin, as well as the difficult caving excavation of the Celtic occupation of the Grotte de la Roche Albéric in Couvin, with the help of a large number of archaeologist friends.

Excavation of the Grotte Ambre in Matagne-la-Grande reveals the remains of a Neolithic collective burial site

The Late-Roman sanctuary of Bois des Noël in Matagne-la-Grande

Cedarc restored the nearby Late-Roman sanctuary of Bois des Noël and resumed excavations there, revealing a new fanum.

Cedarc is taking over the excavation, restoration and enhancement of the Villa des Bruyères in Treignes, with the support of the Walloon Region.
