Surroundings: Treignes is a village located in the commune of Viroinval in the province of Namur, between the Calestienne and Ardenne regions, a stone’s throw from the French border. With a population of some 700, it boasts no less than four museums, several of which could be double-sized. There are also sites that can be visited freely, such as the Gallo-Roman villa and the old lime kiln. In short, Treignes probably has the highest ratio of museums to inhabitants in the world!
The Musée du Malgré-Tout, the archaeological museum of the Couvin and Viroinval entities, features an exhibition room presenting the archaeological heritage of the southern Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse region, from prehistory to the end of the Roman era.
It also offers a prehistory gallery without frontiers on the evolution of Man and his techniques, and temporary exhibitions of international quality. The Parc de la Préhistoire offers a wide range of educational activities and workshops for groups. The Museum is recognized as a category A museum by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
