These sedimentary remains come from the ancient lake settlement of Montilier\/Platzb\u00fcnden, in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland. This site dates to the Late Neolithic and is part of a particularly rich cluster of prehistoric villages located on the shores of Lake Murten. Several Neolithic settlements have been identified at Montilier, dating from approximately 3890 to 2625 B.C. The unique preservation conditions of lakeside settlements\u2014particularly the constant moisture in the sediments\u2014sometimes allow for the recovery of organic materials that have disappeared almost everywhere else: wood, seeds, fruits, plant fibers, and basketry.<\/p>\n
